Miss Lawler asked us to brainstorm some ideas about what we are interested in so we can do some research.
I watched a tv programme about the poverty involved in making cheap clothes for sale on the high street and this raised a question for me that may be addressed through my study of Poverty. I read William Kamkwambe’s book – The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind and realised that he was prepared to stand against the crowd, when his whole village thought he was mad. In the end, he managed to bring power to his whole village, so they treated him as a hero. Similarly in Slumdog Millionaire, Jamal Malik stands against the crowd and holds true to his values. Like Tessa in A Constant Gardener, people who want to make a difference in the world have to hold steadfastly to what they believe is true. So that’s my initial thinking about a research project.
