TITANIA
|
Corin was a well known figure in Shakespearean times. He was viewed as a kindly old and generous shepherd.
|
Why art thou here,
Come from the farthest Steppe of India?
But that, forsooth, the bouncing Amazon,
Your buskin'd mistress and your warrior love,
To Theseus must be wedded, and you come
To give their bed joy and prosperity.
EXAMPLE
Questions You Could Ask Yourself based on the text...
1) Why does she say "the fartherest step of India" rather than just "from India"?
2) The word "Forsooth" suggests doubt or contempt (derogatory disbelief). Why/In what context does Titania use this word?
3) The word "Buskin'd" means boot-wearing. What kind of image does this conjure up in the reader/viewer's mind?
4) Why does she say "wedded" rather than more simply "wed"?
5) How does the line "to give their bed joy and prosperity" link to the characterisation of Titania and Oberon?
