“Jonah lomu” New Zealand’s top 100
Joseph Romanos Non Fiction 19/10/201x This is about Jonah Lomu’s life and how it made him one of New Zealand’s beat and most well-known rugby players. It tells us about how he started in 1991 and was locking for New Zealand under 17 side he was known for how big and fast was and was always in the news yet het stayed humble. He played his last All Black game in 1999. After that he had a kidney problem which meant he had to have a kidney transplant. “Jonah Lomu was a great achievement for rugby” everyone in New Zealand knows who Jonah is even if they don’t follow rugby. He scored for magnificent tries in the All Blacks semi-final he played he played so well that he was always in the paper. This is the price of fame I think that if I became an All Black like him and the Newspapers published everything about me I would not like it. Johan lomu was a great role model. He was always in the paper for doing something good like playing a good rugby game or speaking at schools saying how rugby helped through a tuff time in he’s life where he could of turned to crime instead. He stayed committed to the to the All Blacks even when he had kidney problems he vowed to return to play rugby despite many people thinking his career was over. In 2004 he received a kidney transplant….. And departed rugby – or so it seemed. After a kidney transplant he still played, leading a team at Twickenham and North Harbour. Though he never played as well as he used to he still got big crowds at games. He could have given up when he had a kidney problem, but after his transplant he still played for the All Blacks. In 2003 Lomu was awarded a rare International Rugby Players Association special merit award. I think that many players would have given up if they had become ill but this shows lomu loved rugby and his determination to come back to the sport. Many rugby players get injured and have time off to recover. The more time off the harder it is for them to come back to the sport to play again because it will take them longer to get match fit again. When I had my shoulder injury the coaches would not let me play until they thought I was fully recovered. |
Richie McCaw
Wikipedia Non fiction 20/10/201x This is about Richie McCaw’s life. He started playing Rugby for Otago Boy’s High School. He then failed twice in playing for the 16 year old and under New Zealand team. Richie then went to Christchurch University where he studies Agricultural Science and got his degree before rugby became his life. In 1999 he was selected in the under 19 New Zealand squad. This team won the world championship this was the start of McCaw’s career. He is now the All Blacks captain. McCaw plays open side flanker he also has played blindside flanker and number 8 he has been successful in all these positions. “Along with Dan Carter he is seen as one of the most influential members of the All Blacks” McCaw has the ability to read the game and adjust quickly. This is what has made him a legend a world class player. Richie McCaw 1 believe is one of the best players in the world. He has good leadership skills and this was shown when they won the Rugby World Cup the first time in 24 years. Richie McCaw stays cool under pressure. He is often a victim “International Players Phil Waugh, Quade Cooper, Any Powel have been accused of making cheap shots on the McCaw”. This is because Richie is good at stealing the ball in the rucks. The opposite team gets frustrated with him always interfering so McCaw becomes a target. He often is in the bottom of a ruck and others stand on his hands, or knee him in the head. He never loses his temper but he won’t take bull s**** from other players. He believes what goes on in the field stays on the field. Richie McCaw should have at least another 3 years after this world cup playing international rugby. Even though he was offered a knight hood for his service to rugby but he turned it down. I think he deserved this honour because he is an outstanding player. I watch every game he is in and one day I would like to follow in his footsteps. |
“Unbeatable” a bad tag for the all blacks
By Vince Rugari Magazine article Sports NZ 17/10/2012 This article is about the Australian “Wallabies” losing streak against the All Blacks. It’s about how newspapers criticise the Australian Wallabies on how they play and how they prepare for a test match, while the papers state the All Blacks are unbeatable. This could be dangerous for the All Blacks could get big headed. This could affect the both teams on the way they are thinking. The All Blacks could think this is going to be easy to beat the Wallabies and not train so hard. The Wallabies if they listened to the media and newspapers they could have negative thoughts that it is impossible to beat the All Blacks because they are so useless. In the article it says “It’s very much a mental game and we’ve got to have the step forward Wallabies attitude again” this shows that the mental state of a team is important. As I am in the First 15 I believe as well as practice and being fit your mental attitude is very important. This means that you have to believe you can beat your opponent no matter how big they are. Another key idea it that “Australia predicament an unprecedented injury toll and New Zealand’s 16 game winning streak means they need to pull a rabbit out of the hat to dodge defeat” also comments in the paper like “hopeless Wallabies”. If the Wallabies read these things in the paper it might give them negative thoughts. I think that it would make me try harder to prove them wrong. This happen on Saturday 20th October when the Wallabies drew with the All Blacks 18/18. Maybe the All Blacks through the media thought it would be easy to beat the Wallabies. But it wasn’t. I am sure that the Wallabies will play a good game. They are one of the best rugby teams and are very competitive when playing the all blacks. The all blacks might think they are way better than the Wallabies because they are labeled “unbeatable” that they don’t have to try that hard. It is best if both teams don’t pay too much attention to the media. |
